Education

Neve Shalom is committed to lifelong Jewish learning and offers a wide variety of educational experiences for its entire congregational community.

Hebrew School

The religious school provides children with a comprehensive Jewish education. Students receive a strong foundation in reading and writing Hebrew and an understanding of Jewish history and Jewish rituals, holidays, customs, and ceremonies. Children in each grade have several class sessions with the Rabbi. The Hazzan teaches prayers and Israeli and Holiday songs. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged.

In the middle grades (3-7), students are taught the connection of the holidays with community and family rituals. Students increase their Hebrew vocabulary and conversational skills, begin to read Hebrew, learn the meanings and concepts of Shabbat prayers and continue studying Torah. They are exposed to fundamental concepts of Jewish belief, ritual, halacha and tradition and focus on Jewish values and the uniqueness of Judaism. The curriculum also includes such topics as the development of the Jewish community in the United States and issues for Jewish living. In later grades, students learn Torah and Haftorah trop with the Hazzan.
